Ian Darke has backed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to sign the ‘energetic’ Moises Caicedo of Brighton and Hove Albion over Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea and possibly play the midfielder at right-back.
The popular football commentator added that Moises Caicedo is a ‘fine player’ and he would be a ‘great signing’ for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this summer.
Given the 21-year-old’s performances last season, Darke did also note that Chelsea are ‘pretty far up the queue’ in wanting to sign the player this summer, as he told ESPN.
Who would have thought it? Both Liverpool and Chelsea wanting to sign one of the upcoming midfielders in the Premier League, yet none of them can provide Champions League football.
Whilst those from Merseyside messed up by dropping into the Europa League, the West London club, after spending millions and millions, well and truly shot themselves in the foot and missed out on Europe altogether.
Either way, Darke rated the qualities that Caicedo brings to the table, as he backs a move to Anfield over a transfer to Stamford Bridge for the 21-year-old.

“He’s a fine player, isn’t he,” said Darke. “He’s a versatile player as well. Not only is he strong and energetic. He can win the ball and use it in midfield.
“They even use him at right-back in a couple of games I saw towards the end of the season. I think, in this dream scenario we are occupying, he would be a great signing for Liverpool.
“As I understand things, they are far from the only club that might be interested. Chelsea are pretty far up the queue for him as well – It would be a great move, for him. You would have the Brighton midfield, wouldn’t you?! Caicedo and Mac Allister re-united at Anfield.”

Caicedo’s versatility
It would have impressed Liverpool that Caicedo wasn’t only showcasing his worth in midfield for Brighton last season, but also filling in at right-back.
That should open their eyes and push them to sign the Ecuador star because the interchange between him and Trent Alexander-Arnold could be magic.
The only issue facing Liverpool is the possible transfer fee that could be put on his head, and in this market, you don’t blame Brighton for putting an inflated price on their player.
