Paul Lambert told BBC Sport that he thinks Celtic will make a ‘great signing’ if they can get Shane Duffy’s signature through the door.

The Daily Record has claimed that Brighton defender Duffy has completed his medical and a loan move to Parkhead is imminent.

Duffy is currently on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and it seems as though upon his return he will be a Celtic player.

Bhoys legend, Lambert, worked with the Irishman during their time at Blackburn, as he made it clear that his former club are getting a ‘proper physical’ player.

“He’s wholehearted, he’ll throw his body into things,” Lambert told BBC Sport. “If that goes through, it’s a great signing. He will head things you think people aren’t even going to put a foot in for.

“They’re getting someone who is proper physical. He will put his body on the line, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure Shane will thrive in the atmosphere when the fans come back.

“But it will be the first time in his career that he is going to have to win every game. That’s the difference. I saw great players coming to Celtic and capitulating because they couldn’t handle the crowd. If you thrive on it, you’ll love it, if you think it will be a millstone round your neck, you’ll struggle.”

Celtic’s record transfer sales

  1. Kieran Tierney

    £25 million (Arsenal)

  2. Moussa Dembele

    £19.7 million (Lyon)

  3. Victor Wanyama

    £12.5 million (Southampton)

  4. Virgil van Dijk

    £11.5 million (Southampton)

  5. Fraser Forster

    £10 million (Southampton)

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Duffy walk straight into the Celtic team if he puts pen-to-paper because Neil Lennon needs his know-how and talents to elevate the team.

Whilst Celtic are still producing the goods in the final third, their defensive problems have been on show for the wrong reasons and it played a big part in them failing to qualify for the Champions League.

This is the season of all seasons for those in the Scottish Premiership because Celtic are chasing that historic tenth title, and Duffy will need to play his part if Neil Lennon is to get the club over the line.
