Speaking on LFCTV, Jason McAteer has been giving his verdict on Fabio Carvalho after the youngster signed for Liverpool.
The Reds brought the 19-year-old in from Fulham this summer, and this week, he made his Liverpool debut in a friendly against Manchester United.
Carvalho didn’t have the best of times against the Red Devils as Liverpool lost 4-0, but he did catch the eye of McAteer.
The pundit believes that Carvalho has bags of talent, while he’s even gone as far as to state that the former Fulham man is similar to Philippe Coutinho.
What’s been said?
McAteer had good things to say about Carvalho.
“He’s got bags of talent, we saw that when he was at Fulham, a great prospect with loads of potential,” McAteer said.
“He’s come to a new club and he’s trying to impress the lads. Whether he gets a lot of starts remains to be seen, he’s in an area of the pitch where there’s not too much up for grabs, we’ve just waxed-lyrical about Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and the Ox can play in there. I’m not sure he’s quite ready yet, but he looks like Coutinho to me, he plays like that doesn’t he?”

Coutinho-esque
Anyone who watched Fabio Carvalho for Fulham last season would have immediately have seen how similar this player is to Philippe Coutinho.
Much like the Brazilian, the youngster is a tricky attacking midfielder who moves ever so gracefully with the ball, and on top of that, he has a real eye for goal.
He doesn’t quite have Coutinho’s signature long-range top-corner curler in his locker, but from the edge of the area, Carvalho can be deadly.
Liverpool have a real gem on their hands here, and at the age of just 19, he may only get better.
