According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are looking at Lautaro Martinez as a potential transfer option this summer.
Arsenal could certainly do with some more firepower in their attack, and at the age of just 23, Martinez could act as a long-term replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Argentine has an impressive scoring record at Inter, but perhaps the biggest testament to his quality is the glowing review he once received from Lionel Messi.
What has Messi said?
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo in 2020, Messi had nothing but good things to say about Martinez.
“He’s spectacular,” Messi said.
“He has impressive qualities. You could tell he was going to be a great player and he is showing that.
“He’s very strong, really good one on one, scores a lot of goals and in the area he fights with anyone, holds it up, he can turn, scrap to win it all on his own. He has a lot of quality. He’s very complete.”
Take note
If Arsenal were unsure about Martinez’s quality, Messi’s reference should alleviate any of those concerns.
It’s not outrageous to suggest that Messi is the best player to ever play this game, and if he’s calling another player spectacular, then they have to be something special.
The striker could be an absolute gem for Arsenal, and if the Gunners are serious about bringing a quality striker to the club this summer then they should look no further.
