Speaking on talkSPORT, Gabriel Agbonlahor has heaped praise on Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis after he signed a new contract with the club.
When discussing the 22-year-old, the ex-Villa captain said: ‘Big future. He actually kicked me out the team in my last year at Villa!
‘He’s a great player. The strength he’s got, he’s got a great left and right footed finish, and he’s going to be a great player for Aston Villa.
‘He shows a lot with his strength and hold-up play, he bullies defenders and he can finish.’
The Stevenage-born striker is not necessarily the first name on Dean Smith’s team sheet. However, he does still get regular Premier League action, making 18 league appearances in total last term, four being starts.
Davis came off the bench against Sheffield United on Monday, helping to keep things tidy as Villa saw out their 1-0 lead.
Despite his continued involvement, the goals still aren’t coming for the Villa No.39.
He hasn’t got a goal or an assist in 19 Premier League appearances, and has just five goals in 69 outings for Villa.
It has only become harder for Davis now the Villans have spent a club-record fee on Ollie Watkins, adding more quality to the striking ranks.
However, he is still young and has never let the side down when called upon from a work-rate aspect.
If he wasn’t any good attitude-wise or ability-wise, Smith wouldn’t continue to choose him off the bench when games are in the balance, such as Monday’s encounter with the Blades.
Additionally, he wouldn’t hand him a new deal until 2024, as the Express and Star report.
If Agbonlahor – a man who has played with Davis – thinks the forward has what it takes, then perhaps some patience should be afforded to the Englishman.
