David Beckham lauded Tottenham and Newcastle target, Brennan Johnson, on his Instagram story for his ‘great performance’ during Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Forest star is a much-wanted player, with a number of Premier League clubs keen to sign the £20 million-rated player, including the likes of Spurs and relegation-threatened Newcastle.

Whilst Johnson’s stock is rising in England’s second-tier given Forest’s charge towards promotion under Steve Cooper.

He did even better yesterday because he helped his teammates knock Arsenal out of the third round of the FA Cup.

The Forest youth product played the entire game out on the flanks against Mikel Arteta’s men and he had some big names watching his every move.

One of them included, former Manchester United and England captain, Beckham, who posted the following message on his IG story to the youngster:

“Great performance,” said Beckham. “What a moment, Brennan Johnson. Well done mate.”

Whilst there is a lot of interest in Johnson’s talents, he is better off staying at the City Ground and trying to help his club return to the Premier League.

It has been over two decades since Forest last played in England’s top-flight and yesterday’s performance proved why the two-time European Cup winners need to return.

The East Midlands side are one of the biggest clubs in England, but they have had to deal with years and years of stagnation in the lower leagues.

But keeping their star players during the January transfer window will help their quest to finish in those play-off places at the end of the season.
