Speaking on the What The Footie Podcast, David Webb has been talking about a potential move to Newcastle United.

Webb is currently the Head of Football Operations at Huddersfield Town, and with the Magpies in the market for a new Sporting Director, the Magpies were understandably a topic of conversation.

So, why is Webb speaking about Newcastle? Well, he used to be the Head of first-team Recruitment at Bournemouth, so he has strong links with Eddie Howe and some of the Magpies’ existing players.

However, while Webb says that it would be a great opportunity, he says that he’s had no contact from the Tyneside club as of yet.

What’s Webb said about Newcastle?

The transfer chief spoke about the Magpies.

“I think Newcastle could be, over the next couple of seasons, be a top ten or a top six side,” Webb said.

“Could you see yourself going there? It seems as though the band is getting back together. Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson are there as well and Howe’s number two is there as well,” Webb was asked.

“It would be a great opportunity, but no, I haven’t been contacted by Newcastle yet,” Webb replied.

Not a bad candidate

While it seems as though Dan Ashworth is the man for the job at Newcastle, Webb wouldn’t be a bad candidate at all.

He has a brilliant track record. He helped Bournemouth become an established Premier League side, he helped Spurs become Premier League challengers, while he’s also worked with the incredibly successful youth side at Southampton.

Ashworth is seemingly the front-runner for this job, but if that doesn’t work out, perhaps Newcastle should look towards Webb.
