Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after Mikel Arteta revealed that Eddie Nketiah would be staying at Arsenal this month.

What’s the story?

Well, Crystal Palace have been in talks with Arsenal over a deal for Nketiah, according to The Times.

However, a move to Selhurst Park now looks unlikely following Arteta’s comments.

As quoted by Football London, the Spaniard said: “Eddie is our player and he is going to stay with us.”

The 22-year-old’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in June, and according to Football London, he’d like to leave in order to obtain regular first-team football.

So far this season, Nketiah has only played 38 minutes in the Premier League, although he has shown his ability in the Carabao Cup with five goals in three appearances.

It comes after Crystal Palace also tried to sign the England Under-21 international back in the summer.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are trying to sign Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic amid the Nketiah saga.

In our view, Arteta will allow the Hale End Academy graduate to leave if he can bring the Serbian to north London.

As things stand, the Gunners will enter the second half of the campaign with few options at centre-forward.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is up for sale after Arteta banished him from first-team proceedings, following a disciplinary breach.

The Gabon international also hasn’t been named in a matchday squad since the 2-1 defeat to Everton on December 6th.

That leaves Alexandre Lacazette as Arteta’s only other option at centre-forward, another player whose contract expires in June.

Evidently, the Gunners need a new frontman – if they can get one in this month, then they may be more likely to cash in on Nketiah before they lose him for nothing.

For now, let’s see what the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about Arteta’s comments…
