A Joel Matip injury has increased Liverpool’s problems on the fitness front.
According to The Telegraph, Matip sat out Jurgen Klopp’s training on Friday ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham in their Premier League opener and with Manchester City winning again on Saturday, only a victory will do for the Reds.
However, Klopp has his fair share of injury concerns, most recently Matip.
The former Schalke powerhouse has become the ninth Liverpool player to suffer an injury, joining Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay, Thiago and Diogo Jota on the sidelines.
Matip, however, could shake off his knock in time to face the Eagles and here’s how Jose Enrique reacted to the injury on Twitter:

Even if he’s passed fit, it looks unlikely Klopp will risk him.
With Konate already absent, it’s probably going to be Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
Matip has his fair share of injuries since joining Liverpool six years ago and there’s no sense in risking him in a game that the Reds could – and definitely should – win regardless of their centre-back partnership on the day.
HITC Sport wrote on Friday that Nat Phillips is likely to come back into the squad at the expense of Matip, with the Englishman not making a Premier League squad since way back in December.
