Phil Neville is one of many seemingly chuffed to bits that Rooney has signed a new deal at Manchester United.
The rumours first crawled onto the web about midday yesterday – that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney had finally agreed on a new contract.
Initially it was denied by Moyes that a deal had been signed – but later that evening it was confirmed by the club that Rooney would remain at the club for a further five-and-a-half years.
The new deal will reportedly see Rooney net £300k-a-week in salary – and is the largest deal in the clubs history.
Speaking about signing the new deal Rooney said:
“I’m very happy to have signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and to know that I will be playing here for the majority of my career is something that I’m looking forward to. I’m happy that everything is now finalised and I can carry on concentrating on my football.”
Fans have mixed views about the deal. Some feel he has pulled off yet another negotiation master class for a bumper pay-rise – similar to the one in 2010.
But on the other hand Rooney is of course a world-class performer – even if his weekly wage may now be beyond ridiculous in relation to his talents.
So many a United fan is pleased – in fact one has expressed that clearly on Twitter.
This fan however also happens to be the clubs first-team coach – Phil Neville.
