Jose Enrique has claimed on Twitter that it’s ‘great news’ that James Milner will sign a new contract at Liverpool.

The former left-back added that he ‘really deserves’ his new one-year contract at Anfield.

At the age of 36, Milner isn’t going to be a regular at Liverpool, but his value, especially off the field of play, is just as important as what the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Alisson Becker produce on it.

When it comes to fitness and being able to physically compete with the best, he has shown for a very long time now that he can match someone 15 years younger than him.

Nonetheless, this is how Enrique reacted to the rumours from the Times that Milner has snubbed ‘lucrative offers’ from home and abroad to stay on Merseyside.

WHO WILL FOLLOW MILNER IN SIGNING A NEW LIVERPOOL CONTRACT?

Liverpool fans will be hoping that Sadio Mane and Mo Salah follow suit and also put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

But, at the end of the day, that seems pretty unlikely, especially with Mane, who seemingly wants to head for the exit door this summer and join Bayern Munich.

Whatever happens with the player, those in the Anfield boardroom have some big, big decisions to make this summer.

It’s perhaps their biggest test to date because for the first time, in a long time, Liverpool now have to replace a proven star.
