Arsenal suffered a late blow ahead of their Premier League clash against West Ham on Saturday. Mikel Arteta named Kieran Tierney in his starting line-up but a hip issue just before kick-off ruled him out of the game.

The Gunners had a poor game against the Hammers but somehow managed to pick up the victory. Tierney’s absence wasn’t the only reason why they struggled, but it did play a part, especially in the second half.

The Scotsman has been a fan favourite ever since he joined Arsenal last summer. Tierney missed a good chunk of last season due to injury, but his performances since Project Restart were incredible.

Tierney’s withdrawal from the game on Saturday worried a few Arsenal fans. If the left-back’s injury was a bad one, the Gunners would have had to rely on Sead Kolasinac; which is a concern against the best teams.

Thankfully though, Tierney should be back pretty soon. Arsenal revealed on their website that the former Celtic man will return to training later this week, which means that he should be available for the big game against Liverpool on Monday.

That, however, means that he will miss the league cup game against Leicester City on Wednesday. Ainsley Maitland-Niles will likely start at left-back but it will be interesting to see who will play on the left side of the back three.

David Luiz could return or Gabriel Magalhaes could be pushed to the left with his experienced compatriot in the middle. William Saliba could also get a run-out, which is another exciting prospect for Arsenal supporters.

The positive update regarding Tierney’s injury is excellent news for Arsenal and their fans.
