Gayle is out of contract at Newcastle at the end of the season, and, according to The Telegraph, Bournemouth – who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League – want to sign him in the summer transfer window.
However, according to the report, the 30-year-old striker – described as “a great player” and “a proven goalscorer” by then Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez on BBC Sport in July 2016 – has decided to stay put and fight for his place in boss Steve Bruce’s side.
Good decision?
Gayle has failed to make a huge impact for Newcastle in the Premier League, and the striker will have to fight extremely hard for his place in the starting lineup next season.
However, the 30-year-old is a confident striker, and perhaps if he gets a run of games for the Magpies next season, then he could score goals and perhaps even earn a new contract at the Premier League side.
