Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool.
The Magpies’ all-time top scorer posted a six-word tweet praising Steve Bruce’s side for their display against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Shearer was responding to a tweet from Gary Lineker, who also felt the Tynesiders put in a ‘great effort’ against the Reds.
You can see what both ex-England strikers wrote on Twitter below.
In truth, it really was a good performance from Newcastle against the Premier League champions.
While there were some nervy moments at the back, the Magpies were largely solid and also found opportunities to go forward themselves.
As WhoScored shows, Newcastle had eight shots at St James’ Park yesterday.

Callum Wilson was responsible for two of those efforts.
The ex-Coventry striker forced Alisson Becker into a couple of smart saves on a night where Bruce’s men truly earned their point.
It was the positive result that Newcastle desperately needed after a disappointing run of late.

The Magpies recently lost 5-2 to Leeds, and also suffered defeat to Championship outfit Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
Hopefully, Bruce can use this impressive display to build a platform to push on in the second half of the campaign.
