Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that Josh Dasilva made a ‘great move’ by opting against staying at Arsenal.
Dasilva left Arsenal in 2018, after deciding that he wanted more first-team opportunities.
The youngster then moved to Brentford, and he has now become a key player for the Bees.
Dasilva’s form means that he looks almost certain to be a Premier League player next season, regardless of whether Brentford are promoted or not.
And Redknapp thinks that leaving Arsenal has been the best move for the youngster’s development.
“I have watched him for a while,” Redknapp said, on Sky’s live League Cup coverage (7:27pm).
“He left Arsenal, he decided he didn’t want to sign a contract there and went to Brentford, which has been a great move for him. I think it’s challenged him. He has got into the first team.
“He’s got such a lovely football brain. I like players like this. As a young midfielder they face the other midfielder up and take them on. He’s very elegant. He’s very silky on the ball. He’s got that left foot. He’ll run at people, he’ll cut inside and he’ll shoot. I thought against Newcastle he was a class above. The game was so easy for him.

“I think he has a range of passing as well that all good midfielders should have. He just makes the game looks so easy. He has got all the attributes. This is a great stepping stone, no disrespect, even if the worse comes to worse and Brentford don’t come up. He will still be in the Premier League next season.”
Dasilva made just three appearances for the Gunners during his time there, but he has now been playing regular Championship football for over two years, and it is clear to see how he much he has developed already.
Dasilva’s night against Arsenal’s rival’s Tottenham Hotspur did not go to plan last night, though.
Not only were Brentford beaten 2-0, but Dasilva was sent off for a fierce challenge on Tottenham’s Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.
