Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has stated that James Maddison is a ‘real Tottenham player’ following his transfer to the London club this summer.

The former Premier League striker is part of Gareth Southgate’s coaching staff with England and he has seen first-hand what James Maddison is all about.

For years, Tottenham have been crying out for a player of his ilk and now Hasselbaink has labelled him a ‘very clever’ and ‘proper player’, as he told Premier League Productions

That was showcased on his debut when he cooked in the creative role for this new-look Ange Postecoglou side.

For some, Maddison’s transfer to Spurs has been a long-term coming, with Hoddle claiming that it’s three years too late.

Either way, he is in the building now, as Hasselbaink lauded the qualities he has at his feet.

“James Maddison is a proper player,” said Hasselbaink. “Very clever. Really good between the lines. Very happy to receive the balls in tight areas. Not afraid. Very creative. Can score goals.

“I think a real Spurs player. A little bit about him. Great move for him and a very important year for him.”

Maddison needs a proven goalscorer

It’s a shame for Spurs fans that Harry Kane left when he did because he and Maddison were supposed to be a ‘match made in heaven’.

But Spurs can no longer dwell on that, their club-record goalscorer is out of the door and another out-and-out striker needs to come in.

If Spurs can get someone in this summer to sing and dance with Maddison, then they will, no doubt, form a quite lethal and devastating partnership.
