Wolfsberger striker Shon Weissman has been encouraged to seal a summer move to Celtic by former Israel international Ronny Rosenthal, speaking to Inside Football.
A diminutive forward with a remarkable strike-rate is not the first Israel-born forward to find the net on a regular basis in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Munas Dabbur was rewarded with a move to Sevilla after firing Red Bull Salzburg to domestic glory and the semi-finals of the Europa League.
And it seems only a matter of time before Weissman is following in his footsteps.
Celtic were linked with a move for the £4 million-rated goal-machine by the Telegraph in May – and with good reason.
Weissman has scored 32 goals in 37 games this season, a tally superior to that of Parkhead talisman Odsonne Edouard.
And, according to ex-Liverpool and Watford winger Rosenthal, Celtic could be the perfect destination for a man who has outgrown the relatively small pond that is Austrian football.
“Shon Weissman obviously is having a great season. I think he has surprised himself and of course many other people as he, immediately after moving to Austria, scored so many goals and became a very important player for his club, having an unbelievable impact,” Rosenthal says.
“I think moving to Celtic could be a great move for him because the Scottish league is not so strong and it is important for him to play regularly and be important for the club he is going to.
“I believe if he moves to a higher level he could find himself in competition with other players, and not playing regularly after scoring more than 30 goals in his first season would obviously be disappointing.
“I think Celtic could be interesting for him.”
Despite being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, Edouard seems determined to stick around and make history with The Hoops potentially just 11 months away from sealing their tenth successive Scottish Premiership crown.
So while Weissman might have to get used to a supporting role in Glasgow, he would still represent an upgrade on the ageing Leigh Griffiths and the seldom-seen Vakoun Issouf Bayo.
