Writing in his column for The Sun, Jose Mourinho has given his view on Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips seemingly caught the eyes of the nation after his incredible performance against Croatia last weekend, and Mourinho was seemingly very impressed by him.

Indeed, the former Tottenham boss says that Phillips brought a great intensity to the team and that he now has to play for England at the tournament.

What does Mourinho think?

The ex-Chelsea gaffer was full of praise for Phillips.

“Kalvin Phillips was all over the field — attacking, defending, pressing high, following Luka Modric, giving great intensity to the team,” Mourinho wrote.

“It was a great decision by Gareth and Phillips has to play now.

Spot on

It shouldn’t even be a debate as to whether or not Kalvin Phillips should be starting for England after his showing against Croatia.

Phillips, in typical fashion, covered every single blade of grass last Sunday, constantly harrying the Croatians to great effect.

It wasn’t just his pressing that was impressive either, Phillips showed great ball-carrying ability, and he even grabbed an assist for the only goal of the game.

It was genuinely a very complete midfield performance and Gareth Southgate would be a fool to drop him after that showing.

However, as we know, you can never second-guess England’s team selection at a major international tournament.
