Leeds United-owned defender Charlie Cresswell has been told on Instagram that he has a ‘great future’ after his loan spell at Millwall ended on Monday.

The 20-year-old would have been hoping to be still going in Millwall colours, but Gary Rowett’s side shot themselves in the foot on the last day of the season.

For Charlie Cresswell, he missed the final few weeks of the campaign because of an eye injury, so the Leeds United star had to watch from the stands as Millwall blew their chances of earning promotion to the Premier League – his agent has previously been discussing his long-term future.

There were some hoping, if Millwall got to the play-offs, then the Leeds man would be able to get back on the pitch for them.

It looked possible at the half-time whistle against Blackburn because the London club were winning 3-1 and on their way to finishing in the top six.

But, when the final ball was kicked, they ended up losing 4-3, Sunderland beat Preston away from home, Coventry secured a point against Boro and Millwall dropped out of the play-off places in the most heartbreaking of fashions.

Nonetheless, Cresswell sent a message to the Millwall fans on his Instagram with his spell coming to an end, and in the comments section, Benik Afobe told him: “Great future ahead of you, bro,”.

LEEDS TO MEET MILLWALL IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN?

There was every chance that they could have been meeting in the Premier League, what a sight that would have been!

But with Millwall shooting themselves in the foot and Leeds in all sorts of bother, it can now all change on its head.

Even though Sam Allardyce has come in, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it’s too late to save the sinking Yorkshire ship, who are sitting in the relegation zone and heading down.
