Dundee United starlet Kerr Smith has had a trial at Aston Villa and is now under consideration from Premier League giants Manchester United, Tangerines director Tony Asghar tells the Courier.
It is certainly an exciting time to be a Dundee United fan.
The Championship champions have three of the most exciting homegrown talents in Scotland in their ranks at the moment – though how much longer the trio are on United’s books remains to be seen.
The Sun (12 October, page 61) reports that Burnley are already planning to sign Lewis Neilson and Logan Chalmers in January.
And teenage defender Kerr Smith also has his fair share of admirers south of the border.
“You’re talking about some of the biggest clubs in the world. Plenty of clubs have asked to have a look at him but we can’t let him go to them all,” sporting director Asghar explains.
“We’re delighted that he’s had this chance at Villa and now Manchester United. He’s trained very well at both, I believe.
“It’s great for him but we want the best players at our football club and Kerr has the potential to be one of them. He’s got a great attitude.”
Everton have also shown an interest, according to the Manchester Evening News, having already snapped up one highly-rated central defender this year in the shape of ex-Carlisle United wonderkid Jarrad Branthwaite.
Interestingly, Asghar adds that Kerr and his parents would ‘like to stay’ at Dundee United for the time being.
But if Villa or United put a contract offer on the table, his mind could soon change.
