Everton starlet Tyler Onyango will put himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s sights if he starts to add goals to his game, U23 coach David Unsworth told the Liverpool Echo.
Considering that the Toffees have celebrated Premier League 2 glory twice since 2017, it should be no surprise that a number of talented youngsters have forced their way into the senior squad in recent years.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mason Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny, Anthony Gordon and Tom Davies all learned the ropes at U23 level before making the step up.
Onyango, a 17-year-old midfielder powerhouse who idolises Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, is not a million miles away from following in their footsteps.
The England U17 international scored his first goal of the season in last week’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea and Unsworth thinks first-team honours will be within his reach if Onyango stars to find the net on a more regular basis.
“(Onyango has) energy, great energy. We’ve been working with Tyler on actually arriving in the box and getting those goals,” said Unsworth.

“That will then take him onto the next level and put him on the first team radar.
“These boys are young boys as well, so there’s still loads and loads of development in them. They’re going to be, hopefully, top young players.”
Unsworth was also full of praise for Onyango’s midfield partner Einar Iversen, while Beni Baningime did his chances of a return to the first-team picture no harm at all against Chelsea.
Now 22, time is running out for Baningime at reserve level, but the last of his 12 Everton appearances came all the way back in 2018.
