Eddie Howe told Optus Sport on Premier League Productions (19/04/21 at 7:20 pm) that Tim Sherwood has a ‘great chance’ of becoming Tottenham’s next permanent manager.
Both Howe and Sherwood were doing punditry work on Monday night for Leeds United v Liverpool – and with the European Super League and Jose Mourinho’s sacking stealing the headlines, it was obvious what was going to be talked about before the game.
Daniel Levy opting to sack Mourinho days before their League Cup final showdown with Manchester City was one of the hot topics, before the out-of-work, Howe, was asked the inevitable.
And rather than confirm or deny that he would be interested in the Spurs job, he just batted away the limelight towards Sherwood, who has tasted life in the North London dugout before.
“It’s a club on the up, the team just needs a lift,” said Howe.
Howe was then asked that any out-of-house manager would be interested in the Tottenham job in the summer, wouldn’t they?
“I think Tim’s managed Tottenham before, so he has a great chance.”
Well, Levy has until the end of the season to find the right person to take the reigns in North London, with Ryan Mason put in charge for this final run-in.
And what a moment it is for the Tottenham academy product, because following his early retirement, he will now lead his boyhood club out at Wembley on Sunday.
It will be a little strange for the ex-midfielder because he shared a dressing room with many of the current players, who now have an uphill task to finish in the top four and put a trophy in Tottenham’s academy.
