Jack Grealish’s new contract at Aston Villa will contain a clause allowing him to leave next summer if they’re not promoted.
Jack Grealish will remain as an Aston Villa player, for the time being at least, with a deadline day transfer to Tottenham Hotspur failing to materialise.
As the Daily Star reports, Spurs had a £25m offer for Grealish rejected by the Villans during an ongoing saga in which the Premier League club tried to sign the midfielder on the cheap.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy hoped to capitalise on Villa’s financial troubles at the start of the summer, even offering £3m plus Josh Onomah for the 22-year-old at one point.
Yet as Levy played the waiting game, the Championship outfit were taken over by billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, providing a much needed cash injection and meaning they no longer had to sell Grealish on the cheap to help balance the books.
As a result the England Under-21 international has stayed put, despite the fact he was attracted by the prospect of joining a side in the Champions League, and now talks are underway about a new contract.
Apparently the terms of the new deal would see Grealish double his £20,000-a-week salary and would also contain a clause that would allow him to leave Villa Park next summer should they not be promoted.
