Aston Villa came from behind to beat Rotherham United last night.
Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish has told the club’s official Twitter account that he thought Dean Smith made a great tactical switch against Rotherham United last night.
Villa headed back to South Yorkshire to take on Rotherham just days after beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, and went in with a six-game winning run to protect.
It didn’t look great at half time though, as Tammy Abraham had missed a penalty for Villa, before Tyrone Mings was sent off and Will Vaulks put Rotherham in front from the spot.
However, Smith brought on Mile Jedinak to play at centre back and Jonathan Kodjia to play a 4-3-2 system, with Kodjia scoring the third penalty of the game to make it 1-1 on 48 minutes.
Just moments later, talismanic playmaker Grealish put Villa in front, handing Villa a seventh straight win to close in on a play-off place – even with 10 men.
After the final whistle, Grealish hailed Smith for making the tactical switch to a 4-3-2, helping Villa go on and win the game having been 1-0 down and facing a ‘tough task’.
Grealish also hailed substitute Kodjia, branding his display ‘brilliant’ after weeks of criticism from Villa fans, with the Ivorian just picking up a little bit of form again after a decent cameo against Sheffield Wednesday too.
“It was a tough task at half time, but the manager switched it up a bit,” said Grealish. “We went 4-3-2, Kodj came on and I thought he was brilliant when he came on, so a lot of credit to Kodj,” he added.
