Premier League trio Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Newcastle United are lining up to sign Alex Scott with Bristol City team-mate Andi Weimann highlighting those Jack Grealish comparisons, speaking to Bristol World

They don’t call him the ‘Guernsey Grealish’ purely for the purposes of alliteration.

Manchester City’s £100 million record signing looked like a Premier League player strutting his stuff in the Championship for much of the 2018/19 campaign, and the way Scott bends second-tier games to his whim with a defence-splitting through ball or slaloming run is arguably reminiscent of Grealish in his claret-and-blue pomp.

Scott, Weimann points out, even shares Grealish’s love for a rolled-down knock.

“I think the way Alex glides over the pitch, I can see why people compare him to Jack,” says Weimann, who also played alongside Grealish at Aston Villa.

“Alex, we all know how good he is for his age, how much we rate him in the dressing room, and how much the club rate him. I think he’s now starting to get more attention from outside of the club as well. He deserves (that) because of what he’s been doing.

“He’s obviously got a long way to go to get to where Jack Grealish is. But he’s got a really really bright future ahead of him. We’ll see where he ends up.

The most obvious (similarity) is how they wear their socks!”

Newcastle, according to The Sun, are keeping a very close eye on Scott. The Magpies, defeated in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final by Manchester United, appear to be building a squad based around talented, homegrown youngsters and 19-year-old Scott would fit in nicely alongside Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson and co.

Tottenham, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also eyeing the £25 million-rated teenager.

“He’s deadly. A few clubs bid for him (in January),” Bristol City utility man Kal Naismith adds. “(Scott is) a little old-school, box-to-box. Like a (Steven) Gerrard kind. Obviously I don’t want to make that comparison, he’s got a long way to go.

“He’s tall enough, he’s maybe six foot. He can run all day, hard in the tackle, really good on the ball. He’s different class.

“He reminds me of when Grealish was in the Champ. He lets people get tight to him, and then runs away as if they weren’t even there.”
