Tottenham Hotspur have made signing Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish a priority, The Telegraph reports.

They were unsuccessful in their pursuit of Ross Barkley last year, who chose to move to Chelsea instead where he has barely played.

The ex-Everton ace was largely ignored by manager Antonio Conte, where he was selected for just 131 minutes of Premier League action, and missed out on the World Cup squad.

The Times reported last summer that Tottenham boss Pochettino had big plans for Barkley in midfield, and it now seems like Grealish will be a direct beneficiary of his decision not to join Spurs.

Barkley must dig in at Chelsea and fight for his spot, and after struggling with injuries last season, getting into their first team was always going to be tough.

Yet if it does not work out and he spends the season on the bench again or in the stands, while Grealish stars at Tottenham, Barkley will be feeling a little jealous and thinking that just perhaps, he chose the wrong path.
