Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to Eric Dier aiming a swipe at John Fleck on his Instagram before deleting the post – with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish seeing the funny side to his post in the comments section.
Over the weekend, Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso was involved in an incident when Sheffield United’s John Fleck stamped on the Tottenham man’s head.
Both the on-field referee, but most importantly, VAR opted against punishing the player, with Lo Celso having to wear a massive ice pack on his head later on.
Dier then took to Instagram where he posted an image of Lo Celso on the floor and his foot right next to his head whilst in Tottenham training.
And the Spurs defender accompanied that image with the caption ‘accidentally missed his head’.
It was pretty obvious to the Spurs fans that Dier was firing shots at Fleck, who wasn’t punished for his actions from the weekend.
It’s perhaps one of the biggest issues with VAR that it doesn’t punish such incidents and football has to wait for a serious injury to occur before those running VAR have the bottle to actually overturn decisions on the field.
What’s perhaps more annoying is that referee’s and VAR will then give penalties for the slightest of touches inside the box, yet see nothing wrong with Fleck’s challenge.
Here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to Dier’s IG post, which has since been deleted:
