On September 12 Leeds United beat Birmingham City 2-0 to assert themselves at the top of the Championship table with five victories, no defeats and just two goals conceded in their opening seven matches.

Since then the Whites have lost four of their five league outings, with Reading’s 1-0 win at Elland Road at the weekend their third in a row – a run of results which has seen Thomas Christiansen’s men drop to sixth.

With form and confidence at an all-time low for the season, things don’t get much easier for Leeds with tough fixtures against surprise high-flyers Bristol City and Sheffield United coming up.

The Yorkshire outfit travel to Ashton Gate to take on the fourth-placed Robins on Saturday (October 21), before they host the Blades – who are third currently – the following Friday.

However, according to former defender turned pundit Micky Gray, who twice played for the club on loan, it is potentially difficult like these that will help his former side rediscover their form.

“They’re huge games aren’t they?” Gray said on Channel 5’s Championship programme. “I think when you’re trying to kickstart your season again, because they’ve had a little bit of a blip, they’re the games you want to play.

“The players are going to be ready for it and they need a reaction. My old club Leeds will certainly get a reaction.”
