According to a report in Goal, Hull City manager Grant McCann wants his side to sign Liverpool youngsters Herbie Kane and Ben Woodburn on loan for the forthcoming season.

Woodburn spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, but the Wales international forward struggled for game time at Bramall Lane as he only made seven Championship appearances for the club.

Liverpool’s strength in depth would suggest manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to send him out again, and Hull’s lack of forwards makes a potential deal for the 19-year-old one which could benefit all parties involved.

Kane, meanwhile, spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, under the guidance of Grant McCann.

Prior to becoming Hull manager in the summer, McCann led Rovers to the League One playoffs last season, and he cited Kane as a special talent after the midfielder netted seven league goals for the Yorkshire club.

“The boy’s special. I’ve said that before and I’ll say it again. He’s a special talent and he’s going to have some career,” McCann previously told the Free Press.

Kane’s success at Doncaster under the guidance of McCann should stand Hull in good stead when Liverpool consider which clubs they want their top youngsters to join on loan in 2019/20.

Hull’s financial situation means they aren’t likely to be able to spend fees on new players this summer, therefore the loan market could be their best hope of strengthening the squad.

The Tigers finished in a safe mid-table position last season, but they are in a vulnerable spot this summer and smart recruitment and excellent coaching will be important if they wish to progress.
