Grant McCann provides fitness update on Leeds United’s Malik Wilks

Leeds United forward Malik Wilks has made 17 appearances during his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers to date.

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann has told the Sheffield Star that Leeds United loanee Malik Wilks has picked up an injury.

Wilks has played regularly at Doncaster since leaving Leeds during the summer, but he was taken off with a dead leg in his last match.

And McCann now feels that Wilks is likely to have to sit out of Doncaster’s match again this weekend.

He said: “He just needs a couple of days. It’s quite a bad one really. His thigh is swollen up quite a bit so we’ll try to manage him.

“It is a dead leg but it is a bad one. He’s struggling to bend his leg so we’ll see how he is. Probably it’s looking like we’re going to be without him.”

Wilks has shown plenty of promise during his time with Doncaster, with the Leeds youngster catching the eye on occasion.

Wilks has made 17 appearances for Rovers in the league to date, scoring four times and claiming three assists.

Leeds are sure to be keeping a close eye on Wilks’ progress, as he is regarded as one of their better prospects.

Wilks is proving that he can make an impact at League One level, and Leeds may have a decision to make over his future when he does return to Elland Road at the end of the season.

Doncaster’s next match comes against Chorley in the FA Cup later this evening.
