Grant Hanley has told the Shields Gazette that he does not regret moving to Newcastle United last summer.

Hanley’s switch to St. James’ Park has not worked out as expected, as the defender has failed to break into Rafael Benitez’s side.

Hanley made just five starts for Newcastle this season, and is now expected to move on in the summer.

However, the Scottish international insists that he does not wish he went elsewhere last summer.

“Definitely I’m happy I came here,” he said.

“You can’t let a chance like his pass you by.

“If a team like Newcastle wants to sign you then it’s a no-brainer.”

Both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County are said to be interested in signing Hanley (Shields Gazette).

The powerful defender remains a good option at Championship level, but it seems Benitez has some doubts about him.

Newcastle are unlikely to stand in Hanley’s way, if another side does come in for him this summer.

The Magpies are expected to strengthen in defence in the coming months, meaning Hanley’s chances at St. James’ Park are only set to become more limited.
