Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to send a message to midfielder Victor Wanyama following his performance against Middlesbrough.

Spurs made it four wins from their first six Premier League games of the season by beating Middlesbrough 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, with Son Heung-min’s first-half brace setting Tottenham on their way.

Ben Gibson’s goal back for Boro proved to be little more than a consolation, with Spurs unbeaten so far, dropping just four points in their six games.

One of the most important factors in Tottenham’s start to the season is that Mauricio Pochettino’s squad looks so much stronger following their summer transfer activity.

Pau Lopez, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Vincent Janssen have all added competition for places, and their arrivals mean that Spurs aren’t quite so reliant on a number of key players as they were last season.

Midfielder Wanyama has been called upon more than most given that Mousa Dembele was suspended four the first four games of the season, and he has shown why Pochettino was so keen to sign him.

Pochettino and Wanyama worked together at Southampton, and finally reunited over the summer after rumours surrounding a move in the last couple of transfer windows.

The Kenyan star, 25, has started all six of Tottenham’s Premier League games this season, and has impressed with his power and defensive abilities in front of the back four, whilst he even popped up with the winning goal against Crystal Palace in a 1-0 win last month.

After another strong display against Middlesbrough, Wanyama received praise from Totteham hero Graham Roberts, who took to Twitter to hail the former Celtic star.

Roberts sent a message to ever-present Wanyama, stating that he has been a really good signing for the club so far, and not only brings great physicality to the midfield, but also looks like he has been playing with the side for years.
