Tanguy Ndombele has blamed his Tottenham failure on the North London club’s turnover managers – and it has not gone down well with Spurs legend Graham Roberts. The latter took aim at Ndombele on Twitter.
Ndombele, 25, has rejoined Lyon from Tottenham on a loan-to-buy deal until the end of the season. It comes after his club-record £63million move failed to deliver, scoring just 10 goals in 91 appearances for the club.
The France international has simply failed to provide any kind of regular quality, with a lack of work ethic and attitude cited as reasons. Spurs have had five managers in the time he has spent at Tottenham.
Starting with Mauricio Pochettino, he also had Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. He was quoted by GFFN as saying: “I had 5 different managers at Tottenham. I needed something else.”
Those quotes were reported by numerous Tottenham fan sites and Roberts has responded. The Spurs icon has said what all Spurs supporters feel regarding Ndombele – that perhaps it is the player, and not the managers.
Roberts on Ndombele: Midfielder’s attitude at Tottenham not right
Roberts has hit the nail on the head. The fact that five managers – including Mason on an interim basis – could not get a regular tune out of Ndombele, is proof that it is the player himself, not the man in the dugout.
He is a player with enormous talent, an eye for goal and can create one, too. But as many have stated in the past, quality is nothing without work ethic. It has been poor ever since Pochettino left and a permanent exit is needed.
