Graham Roberts has said on Twitter that Toby Alderweireld was fantastic for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City.

The former Tottenham star has also said that had Jose Mourinho been in charge of Spurs, then the Belgium international central defender would not have started in the Carabao Cup final.

Mourinho was sacked as the Spurs head coach early last week, with Ryan Mason taking over until the end of the season.

Alderweireld started the match on Sunday and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the North London club lost 1-0.

How did Toby Alderweireld play?

Alderweireld played well for Tottenham and defended strongly, and there was nothing that the 32-year-old could do about the goal that the North London club conceded.

City played well and had chances, and credit must be given to the Spurs defence that they conceded just one goal.

According to WhoScored, the Belgian took one shot which was not on target, took 71 touches, and made eight clearances.

So far this season, the Tottenham defender has scored one goal in 20 Premier League matches for Spurs, according to WhoScored.

Spurs may have lost the Carabao Cup final, but the North London club can still finish in the Premier League top four this season.
