Tottenham legend Graham Roberts and popular TV pundit Gary Neville are just some of the ex-players who have taken to Twitter to criticise the Premier League’s decision to air some of the top-flight games on pay-per-view.

Sky Sports announced that non-televised games will be made available to watch in October behind a pay-per-view wall given that supporters aren’t allowed into stadiums, at this moment in time.

It is said that fans can purchase each match for £14.95 – and it’s a decision that has sparked outrage amongst supporters throughout the country.

Tottenham supporters will, of course, be one of the club’s affected by this decision – the first set of pay-per-view games have been announced, and as things stand, Spurs aren’t one of them.

This is what former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville had to say on Twitter, with ex-Spurs man Graham Roberts also sharing his response.

Given the current climate, it’s hard enough as it is for supporters to pay for day-to-day stuff, so adding this pay-per-view model to watch Premier League games is completely out of order.

Supporters have no choice but to watch their teams from home because Government guidelines aren’t allowing them to cheer their teams from the stands.

But the answer to that solution isn’t to use a pay-per-view model because it’s not their fault they are watching from home, the recent climate has hit people hard and sections of supporters already pay for their BT Sport or Sky Sport package. So why should they have to pay more?

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings

  1. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

    £15 million; Southampton

  2. Joe Hart

  3. Matt Doherty

    £13 million; Wolves

  4. Sergio Reguilon

    £25 million; Real Madrid

  5. Gareth Bale

  6. Carlos Vinicius

  7. Joe Rodon

The Premier League has just spent a fortune on transfers once more, so if that can happen in today’s climate then supporters shouldn’t be charged such stupid amounts to watch a football game from their home when the current situation is out of their hands.

Given the backlash that has come from this news, it should hopefully result in this decision being reversed, but with the Premier League being the Premier League, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it stays as it is.
