Kevin Wimmer left Tottenham Hotspur after three seasons with the Lilywhites.

Kevin Wimmer has completed his £18 million move from Tottenham Hotspur to Stoke City, according to BBC Sport.

The writing has been on the wall for Wimmer since Tottenham spent £42 million on Davinson Sanchez, rendering the Austrian surplus to requirements.

West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace were linked but the Potters have won the race for his signature.

The 24-year-old only made five Premier League appearances under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino last season, having lost his place as third-choice centre-back to Eric Dier.

But he leaves North London with a good reputation among Tottenham fans, who watched him perform admirably in 2016 when he had to step in for the injured Jan Vertonghen.

And club legend Graham Roberts has described him as a “very nice guy” as he wished him luck on Twitter ahead of his new adventure.

It is good to see Wimmer remain in the Premier League, following previous speculation about a return to former side Koln.

As he proved in the second half of the 2015-16 campaign, he is a very able defender in England’s top flight and he will no doubt remind any would-be doubters this season.
