Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat in their latest Champions League clash which proved to be an enthralling game at Wembley.

Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to comment on Spurs’ 4-2 Champions League defeat at home to Barcelona on Wednesday night, and has singled out three players for praise after the loss.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men faced a difficult task trying to get off the mark in their group having lost in the opening round against Inter Milan. And their job at Wembley was made no easier when Hugo Lloris came flying off his line in the second minute to make Philippe Coutinho’s life a lot easier as he stroked the ball home from the edge of the box.

Ivan Rakitic’s stunning volley made the score 2-0 at the break, and few Tottenham fans would have had many complaints as the home side struggled to make an impact. But what the scoreline did do was set the stage for a pulsating second-half.

Spurs scored quickly through Harry Kane before Lionel Messi restored Barca’s two-goal lead. Erik Lamela’s deflected effort then made the scoreline 3-2 before Messi ended Spurs’ hopes of a late comeback with a fourth for the visitors.

It was a superb effort after the break from Spurs who would have undoubtedly given Barcelona a scare as they pushed for an equaliser when the score was 3-2.

And Roberts suggested on social media that Pochettino’s side can take a lot of heart from the performance, while he also reserved praise for Lamela – who was arguably Spurs’ best player on the night – Kane and Harry Winks.
