Former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has a different choice for Tottenham’s player of the season.
While there is still plenty of football left to be played, Roberts believes that centre-back Jan Vertonghen should scoop Tottenham’s individual award.
Commenting on Twitter, Roberts hailed the Belgian defender, who has been a rock at the back for Spurs throughout the campaign.
Vertonghen has this season managed to stay injury free, having suffered a couple of short term lay-offs during the previous two seasons.
His performances were at times overshadowed by Toby Alderweireld, or the success shared, but his centre-back’s injury issues have seen the burden on Vertonghen increase this season.
He has helped new signing Davinson Sanchez settle in North London, and with Alderweireld expected to leave, the pressure will increase on Vertonghen, but as Roberts points out, so too will the individual accolades.
