Tottenham Hotspur icon Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to heap praise on playmaker Christian Eriksen after the Dane scored a hat-trick for his country on Tuesday night.

Eriksen, 25, brushed aside Martin O’Neill’s Ireland with three well-taken goals to book Denmark’s place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer, with the Irish helpless.

The former Ajax star has been in excellent form for both club and country, and even Denmark manager Age Hareide claims the attacking midfielder is one of the 10 best footballers in the world at the moment.

Roberts, who played for Spurs for six years between 1980 and 1986, described Eriksen as an “incredible player” as his former side’s number 23 scored three of Denmark’s five during their 5-1 win, and urged him to do the same on Saturday against Arsenal.

With the aggregate score at 0-0 following Saturday’s goalless draw in Denmark, Eriksen gave Denmark the lead after Shane Duffy’s opener for Ireland was cancelled out by a Cyrus Christie own goal.

He swept home a superb effort from the edge of the area that clipped Darren Randolph’s crossbar before going in, and added a third in the second half with a left-footed effort from a similar distance.

He rounded off his hat-trick by taking advantage of a loose ball to fire home into the roof of the net before former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner scored from the penalty spot to book his nation’s place in Russia next summer.

Eriksen is expected to start in Saturday’s north London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with three points enough to see Spurs move into second place if Manchester United slip up against Newcastle United.
