Graham Roberts has singled out Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama for praise.

Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final in North London last night.

There was bad news for Spurs in the form of injuries to Harry Kane – who could now miss the rest of the season – and Dele Alli.

But there was also a very encouraging substitute appearance from Wanyama, who replaced Harry Winks for the final 10 minutes or so.

The Kenya international has barely kicked a ball for the Lilywhites in 2019 in what’s been another injury-hit season. but he looked impressive against Pep Guardiola’s side last night, and Tottenham legend Roberts has described his display as ‘excellent’.

Wanyama has barely made it to double figures this season as far as appearances go and although he’s a quality player, Mauricio Pochettino must consider signing a more reliable midfielder this summer.

The former Southampton star was also sidelined for most of last season and it’s starting to impact Tottenham, especially with Mousa Dembele gone.
