Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Daniel James.

Swansea City boss Graham Potter has told BBC Sport that he thinks winger Daniel James is good enough for a top-six Premier League club.

Swansea have shown some promise under Potter in what has been a transitional season for the Swans, but winger James has been a shining light.

The 21-year-old wide man has notched four goals and five assists in the Championship this season, whilst dazzling with his blistering pace and even featuring for Wales on the international stage.

The problem for Swansea is that James is out of contract in 2020, and with a new deal proving to be difficult right now, a summer sale may be on the cards.

Leeds United are bound to be keen, having teed up a deadline day deal in January, only for Swansea to essentially ignore signing off on the deal despite James completing a medical, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Now, James is attracting even loftier interest. Wales Online note that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race, as have Bournemouth, Leicester City and Manchester City as a stay at Swansea gets less and less likely.

Now, Swansea boss Potter has given his take on James, suggesting that the winger is at a top-six Premier League club level, believing he has now outgrown Swansea as a club.

Potter pointed to James excelling against Manchester City and thriving alongside Gareth Bale as his proof, clearly feeling that the winger is destined for greatness.

“It’s just clear at a football level,” said Potter. “It is not for me to announce values and prices, but against Manchester City he matches the physicality of Kyle Walker, for example, and runs away from players at that level. That’s a direct comparison against Premier League players at the very top and you can see his quality. He plays alongside Gareth Bale (for Wales) and doesn’t look out of place. You look at his attributes and how he influences games at Championship level. He causes teams real, real problems.”

“It’s up to the market to decide the rest, but I’m happy to have him with me and long may it continue. If you have an asset that has outgrown the club and is at a top-six Premier League club (level), you should see that as a positive situation and make your club better. We are not in that situation yet because we have a player who is enjoying playing for Swansea City and will continue to do his best for the team,” he added.
