Leeds United reportedly want Swansea City’s Daniel James.

Swansea City manager Graham Potter has told the club’s official website that discussions over a new contract with reported Leeds United target Daniel James are going on.

Earlier this month, Potter revealed to BBC Sport that Swansea have started conversations with James – as well as with Leroy Fer and Mike van der Hoorn – over a new deal.

James was linked with a switch to Leeds from Championship rivals Swansea in the January transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, the move of the 21-year-old – who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder – to the Whites on January transfer deadline day broke down due to conflict between then-Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins and the Welsh club’s American owners, Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien, over the sale of the youngster.

Swansea themselves issued a statement on their official website regarding James’s failed move to Leeds.

According to The Mirror, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa remains interested in the Wales international winger and may make a move again in the summer of 2019.

Swansea manager Potter has now disclosed that talks over a new contract with James are progressing.

Potter told Swansea’s official website: “It would be helpful and it makes sense (to agree a new deal with Dan), but these things are a process and they take time.

You have to find a solution that is good for everyone, and that is where we are at. There is progress, there is nothing to report apart from that.

“Progress has been made, as with a lot of other players, but we have to have those conversations in private and when we have something to announce it, we will.”
