Spanish football expert Graham Hunter has told Sky Sports that reported Everton target, James Rodriguez, still thinks he is ‘world-class’.
Sky Sports have reported that the Real Madrid playmaker is heading to Merseyside and closing in on a move to Goodison Park.
If the 29-year-old does make that switch then he will re-unite with his former Real and Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti, who was the last manager to get the best out of his seemingly hidden talents.
Hunter, who has covered football in Spain for more than a decade now, claims that the versatile attackers wants the Everton move.
“Carlo Ancelotti and James had a very good relationship in James’ first season at Real Madrid,” Hunter told Sky Sports. “He is not wanted by Real; they desperately need to cut the numbers in the squad, they desperately need to cut the wage bill and they desperately need income.
“The idea of playing at Everton is something he would welcome. He was due to leave Real Madrid at the beginning of last season but it was blocked and he was angry.
“He’s ready to play and still thinks he’s world-class. If Carlo Ancelotti can get him, he’s the type of footballer that the Goodison faithful will be yearning to see regularly.”

Rodriguez made a name for himself in Brazil when his performances in the colours of Colombia at the 2014 World Cup caught the eye of La Liga giants Madrid.
Whilst Ancelotti was able to get the best out of the technically-gifted left-footer, he has struggled to make a real name for himself in Spain or Germany on a more regular basis.
He will now try his talents in a more robust and physically-demanding league, but his ability to produce that magic moment will be needed at Everton, it’s just a case of producing it on a regular basis.
