Graham Dorrans’ return welcome boost for Rangers after Goss display

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Sean Goss put in his least convincing performance in the Ibrox side’s latest game.

Graeme Murty may well still be kicking himself this evening as he tries to work out what went wrong for Rangers in Sunday’s Old Firm game that threatened to be a special day for the Gers, but ultimately ended with their rivals celebrating a stunning win.

In an enthralling game at Ibrox, Rangers looked set to end their wait for a win against the Hoops as Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias helped the home side go in front on two occasions. Unfortunately for the Light Blues, Celtic equalised both times to go into half-time level at 2-2.

It appeared that Rangers would be in the ascendancy soon after half-time however, as they had a man advantage following the red card that was shown to Jozo Simunovic for an elbow on Alfredo Morelos. But ultimately, it was Brendan Rodgers’ men who would steal the points, scoring a third through Odsonne Edouard before defending well and getting a huge slice of luck when Alfredo Morelos somehow missed from a couple of yards.

Morelos will be taking some of the blame, as will Murty for his decision to not throw Jason Cummings on until the latter stages, but, in truth, there were a handful of players who have been brilliant lately who failed to kick on when the game was there for the taking.

One of those players was Sean Goss. Goss has been superb since arriving at Ibrox on loan, but he arguably saved his worst performance yet for Sunday’s game and it was ultimately a surprise that he stayed on as long as he did.

Goss’ display makes the news that Graham Dorrans is back in training – as shown on the club’s official website last week – an even bigger boost.

Dorrans has been out since Pedro Caixinha’s final game in charge so his return to the ranks must feel like a brand new signing for Murty, who has not been able to call upon the 30-year-old yet.

The early months of Dorrans’ Ibrox career may not have gone to plan, but he was arguably one of the side’s best performers during that period so having him back in the fold is huge for Rangers ahead of the final months of the season.

There is still a lot to play for for Rangers this season, and having Dorrans back to push Goss and Greg Docherty and rival the pair should certainly help the loanee put his disappointing Old Firm display behind him and concentrate on getting back to his best.
