Glasgow Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans does not agree with Charlie Adam that the Ibrox side need more British players in their squad.

Graham Dorrans has refuted Charlie Adam’s recent suggestion that Rangers need more British players in their squad by insisting that every player who arrives at Ibrox is aware of the club’s stature regardless of which country they have arrived from, the Daily Record reports.

Adam took to Twitter in the wake of the Gers’ Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat to Motherwell on Sunday to suggest that Pedro Caixinha needs to have more home-grown players available to him to turn their fortunes around.

But Dorrans has hit back at Adam’s claim, and suggested that the reason that they are out of the cup is down to the entire team’s performance against Well rather than any of the foreign players having any difficulty finding the motivation they need.

“There is a bit much made of that. The foreign boys who have come over know this club is renowned worldwide,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“You don’t just hear about Rangers when you’re about to sign. Everyone knows about this football club.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen during the Betfred League Cup Semi Final between Rangers and Motherwell at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“People who come here from all over the world know what it means to play here. On Sunday we weren’t at it, we weren’t up to matching them and we paid the price.”

In fairness to Caixinha, he made so many signings during the summer that it was always going to be difficult for everything to click into place right away, regardless of where the signings came from.

While the likes of Dalcio and Fabio Cardoso are among those who have not been good enough, there could perhaps be questions asked about whether Ryan Jack for example – a player who has no excuse for not knowing what the Scottish Premiership and Rangers is all about – has hit the heights that would have been expected from him since arriving from Aberdeen.

And with Alfredo Morelos often looking extremely impressive since signing in the summer, there are certainly some success stories to come from Caixinha’s global recruitment policy.
