Rangers paid far more than they initially wanted to in order to land Norwich City’s Graham Dorrans – but the risk is already reaping rewards.
It’s fair to say Rangers took their time sealing a deal for Graham Dorrans.
Despite Norwich City’s willingness to sell the Scottish midfielder, it took the Ibrox giants a number of weeks, and a series of failed bids, before they finally agreed to meet The Canaries’ £1.5 million asking price, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
And it’s fair to say Rangers are already reaping the rewards. Dorrans already looks the pick of the club’s nine summer signings, netting twice to seal a dramatic 2-1 win at Motherwell in a dream debut for his boyhood club.

At 30, Rangers are unlikely to make any profit on their significant outlay, making Dorrans the cash-strapped club’s second most expensive signing since 2012.
However, the former Livingston starlet has already vastly improved the starting XI and should prove to tight-fisted chairman Dave King that money does indeed talk.
Therefore, Rangers should keep this in mind as they continue to negotiate with Hearts over the signature of Jamie Walker. The 24-year-old has been subject of a number of bids from Rangers, though none of which have reached Hearts’ £1 million price tag, the Daily Mail reports.
The report adds that they are still interested in a player who netted 15 times from the wing last season but, with just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Rangers’ refusal to bow down to Hearts’ demands could cost them a signing that would hugely improve their squad.

However, Dorrans’ impressive impact should remind Rangers that, on occasion, paying over the odds for a player can make sense. Dorrans and Walker would burn a whole in Rangers’ bank balance but could also help them steal second place from Aberdeen and make crucial headway in Europe next season.
