Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers lost 3-1 to Pedro Caixinha’s side earlier this month.
Graham Cummins has told The Evening Echo that Rangers fans’ frustrations affected the players during their defeat by St Johnstone at Ibrox.
The Saints stunned Graeme Murty’s side by beating Rangers 3-1 earlier this month for what was their first victory at Ibrox since 1971.
Alfredo Morelos had given the Gers – who were going for a fifth successive Premiership win – an early 1-0 lead, but goals from Blair Alston, Denny Johnstone and Cummins himself flipped the game on its head in Glasgow.
And the Irish striker has claimed that the atmosphere turned hostile after the hosts went 2-1 behind, to the point even Rangers substitutes were “receiving abuse” from the angry home fans.
“When we scored our second, the atmosphere in the ground changed,” he wrote in The Evening Echo.
“Rangers aren’t the same team they were years ago, however, their supporters still expect them to roll teams over at Ibrox.
“The Rangers fans were groaning at every mistake made by one of their players and it seemed to affect the Gers’ players. Even Rangers’ substitutes were receiving abuse when they went down the touchline to warm-up.”
Murty’s side went on to lose 2-1 at Kilmarnock the following week – another game where they took the lead – and the atmosphere will surely be rocky tonight if Motherwell go ahead at any point during their trip to Ibrox.
Victory would see Rangers leapfrog second-in-the-table Aberdeen if the Dons lose at home to Partick Thistle.
