Graeme Souness sounds warning about Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane was back to this best on Tuesday night as Tottenham Hotspur secured a win against Red Star Belgrade.

Graeme Souness thinks that Tottenham Hotspur should be worried about losing ‘prized asset’ Harry Kane to either Manchester United or Real Madrid.

The former midfielder pointed towards Tottenham’s lack of trophies and their inability to go forward after the Champions League final as reasons as to why they could lose their main striker.

Kane netted a brace for his boyhood club on Tuesday night when Mauricio Pochettino’s side put five past Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

After the match, Souness spoke about Kane’s future and explained why the North London club should be worried about potentially losing him.

On whether Tottenham should be worried about holding onto Kane: “Most definitely,” Souness told Virgin Media Sport. “Harry Kane will be saying to himself ‘we get to the final of the Champions League and we’ve not gone forward’. On current form, they have gone backwards alarmingly.

“So, when you are at Harry Kane’s age of 26, captain of England, he has to start winning stuff – that doesn’t look like happening at Spurs. As much as he loves Spurs because he has come through the system there, he will want to win things. Two trophies in 27 years or something for Spurs. That’s just not good enough.

“Okay, you are playing in a shiny new stadium, which is arguably the best around, at this time. But what will be important to Harry right now, and he is a prized asset where people will come sniffing around. You are thinking Benzema coming to an end at Real Madrid and Manchester United desperately need someone “

It could be understandable for a Kane to move to a Real Madrid given their recent success, and the fact that they still have that aura about them in Europe.

But it would come as a serious surprise if Kane were to leave Tottenham for Old Trafford because the club has gone well and truly backwards over these years.

Added with that, United aren’t playing Champions League football, and in reality, Kane moving from North London to the red half of Manchester would be seen as a backwards step today.
