Graeme Souness said on Sky Sports Football (5:25pm, November 28, 2020) that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips does not score enough goals.
The former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Phillips should score more goals.
Souness said that the 24-year-old England international midfielder is a good striker of the ball, and that he likes him very much.
The Scotsman said about Phillips on Sky Sports Football (5:25pm, November 28, 2020): “I like him very much.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “One obvious criticism, 37 games last year in the Championship, two goals.”
Souness continued: “I think he is a good striker of the ball, he should be shooting more. Get more goals. Be more of a goal threat. There’s a lot to like about him.”
Does Kalvin Phillips need to score more goals?
Phillips is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League and is a key figure at Leeds.
The 24-year-old has been superb for the Whites in terms of protecting the back-line, and he is brilliant at what he does.
While Phillips does not need to score more goals, it would be good for him to add that facet to his game.
The midfielder has provided one assist in the Premier League so far this season, while during the 2019-20 campaign, he scored two goals and gave two assists in the Championship, according to WhoScored.
Back in 2017-18, Phillips scored seven goals and gave three assists in the Championship, according to WhoScored, but that was before Marcelo Bielsa came to Leeds and made him a ‘proper’ defensive midfielder.
