Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports that Daniel Sturridge has got a mountain to climb to get into the Liverpool first team.
The striker fell out of favour under Jurgen Klopp last season as injuries continued to take their toll, but came back strongly towards the end of the season.
Questions have once again been raised at the beginning of this campaign though after he openly discussed his unhappiness at playing in a wide role in the defeat to Burnley.

He started Saturday’s game with Tottenham Hotspur on the bench and Souness says he has a fight to get back into the team.
“He’s got a mountain to climb,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think if you’re talking about sheer technical ability and an eye for goal, he’s above them all. But what he doesn’t have is perpetual motion, he’s not high intensity.”

Indeed, the problem that Sturridge has is that the other players who can play that central striker role are all better suited to Jurgen Klopp’s style.
The perfect example of this is Roberto Firmino, who is adept at playing the high tempo, high pressing game that the German wants his main striker to play.
The Brazilian is finding himself in the team ahead of Sturridge because of that fact and unless the England man adapts quickly, he is unlikely to find himself in Klopp’s first team plans any time soon.
